May I Pause For A Moment

I have written this blog since April of 2008, conveying my thoughts on NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. I have watched him win, crash, DNF and get angry. I've seen him come to near blows with the likes of Kyle Petty, Brad Keselowski and even his own crew.

His emotions are evident even when he tries to hide them. The disappointment of a poor finish weighs him down and the jubilation of a hard fought victory lift his feet off the ground and he seems angelic in his glow in Victory Lane. The Gatorade that drenches him only masks his tears of elation at success.

I have seen him win poles, and start at the rear of the field. I have seen him dominate and I have seen him barely get started only to be finished in the blink of an eye. I have cheered until I was hoarse, cried until my shirt was soaked and I must also admit that I have been prone to fits of rage when commentators talk crossly about him.

He has been the center of controversy, the fall guy for things that weren't his fault and he has been withheld praise that was due him. I take to heart every word that is whispered about this man that I follow loyally week in and week out. I am offended when people say they don't like him and I am proud when I hear people say "I think he's awesome".

That's because I think he is the best there ever will be and I am proud to call myself his fan. To take my time to write words, post statistics and publish photos of someone so special is not even close to being good enough for him.

To me, Denny Hamlin is worth more money than President Obama could ever ask Congress for. He's worth more than gold and just one glance at my tribute to him is beyond appreciated. Lately, I have taken for granted the man I call my hero, my mentor and the man I desire to be like. To have an ounce of his strength, his courage and his bravery would mean that I arrived.

Perhaps if I keep watching, keep reading and keep writing, a little of his character will rub off on this inadequate blogger who is humbled to even have Denny Hamlin visit the place dedicated to him by a country girl with the gift of words.

So Champ... because I have neglected it way too long and because you deserve it more than anyone else on this planet... I give you a thunderous standing ovation and spray you with all the champagne you can possibly handle. You leave me in awe!

Fans are very important to the drivers and the sport and everything you do,say, blog about etc does matter and in one way or another does make a difference. Anyone would be honored to have a fan like yourself.

Becca,

To have such deep feelings for your passion and your friend is special. He better appreciate what you do for him, the hours you spend writing, researching and working to make him proud. I have seen you cry over him, I have heard you pray for him and I know how much he means to you! Can't quite figure it out cuz he's just a man but you see something in that guy. Must be true or else you would've given up a long time ago! He's blessed to have you in his corner. I love you girl!!!! Great post, Thank you for sharing it with me.

You know who

I'm right there with you. Denny Hamlin and Greg Biffle are idols to me. We should all aspire to be more like the drivers we root for; be it Busch, Hamlin, Dale Jr, or Biffle. They all have qualities we should use in our own lives; and are truely great men.

Just like you, I cried tears of joy at Martinsville, and tears of pain at Richmond. I hope Denny knows what he means to the fans; and if we mean even a fraction of that to him, that's good enough for me.

Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to be able to do this blog about Denny. I take for granted that he will answer questions for me and that he stops by to see what's going on when he gets a minute. I lose site of how blessed I am to have such an incredible man as my hero and to have his example to follow! So every now and then I just need to express my appreciation and remind myself that I am lucky to know that a miracle such as Denny Hamlin exists.
